Don Boyd Don Boyd is a British film director, producer and screenwriter. He is also founder and editor-in-chief of the soon-to-be launched Hibrow.tv, which will be the first online platform to comprehensively feature original content curated and produced by professionals working in all the visual and performing arts.
Boyd – described by film critic Alexander Walker as a ‘one man film industry’ – wrote, directed and produced his first feature Intimate Reflections in 1975 at the age of 26. In 1977 he established a production company, often favouring young, innovative filmmakers, which produced a series of successful British films including Alan Clarke's Scum, Derek Jarman’s The Tempest and the the multi-directorial opera film Aria which was nominated for the Palme D'Or at Cannes in 1987. He also directed independent feature films such as Twenty One (1991), written by Zoe Heller, and My Kingdom (2001), which starred Richard Harris in his last leading role. He has directed over 20 television documentaries, several for the BBC strand Storyville, and three award winning factual series with the comedienne Ruby Wax including the BAFTA and Prix Italia nominated films featuring Imelda Marcos and Goldie Hawn.
Boyd is a visiting Professor in Film Studies at the University of Exeter and a Governor of the London Film School. He contributes to the Guardian, Time Out and the Observer and has just completed his first novel, which will be published by Ziji in March 2010.
