Zoels will present research conducted with Vodafone that uses large data sets to uncover meaningful insights for users, revealing connections, patterns and coincidences in our lives.

At the Turin-based Experientia, Jan-Christoph Zoels focuses on people’s experience of mobile services and applications, and on using information technology to support simplicity. Experientia is an international experience design consultancy which helps companies to innovate products and services by putting people and their experiences first.

Prior to joining Experientia, Zoels was co-founder and senior associate professor at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, where he led business innovation workshops called Applied Dreams with industry leaders such as Mattel, Sony, Hitachi, Nokia, Alcatel, Orange, Fiat and Telecom Italia. His design research focused on the user experience of mobile telecommunications devices and services. Classes taught include 50 Ways to Understand a User, Designing Desire and Strategic Design: Putting People First. Before this, he was director of information architecture for Sapient (New York), and senior designer at Sony Design Center USA, responsible for strategic product development.

Zoels received his Master Degrees in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and the Academy for Art and Design in Berlin. He has taught at Rhode Island School of Design, the Jan Van Eyck Academy in the Netherlands and Samsung’s Innovative Design Laboratory in Korea.
